Celebrating International Men’s Day: How to Create Positive Change in Society
Hey, kings! International Men’s Day is celebrated on November 19th and we want to utilize this time to raise awareness for the challenges men face and how we can bring positive change to society. Men have often been told to “tough it out” and stay silent, contributing to fear of reaching out for help when needed. It’s time to throw away this toxic mindset. Today, we’re going to discuss how to be better men and create lasting change through our actions:
Start the Conversation
Don’t be afraid to start the conversation surrounding men’s mental health. It might seem intimidating when we first open ourselves to vulnerability, however, it truly becomes easier over time. Begin by talking to the most trusted person in your circle and embracing your inner emotions with them. After you share your feelings, encourage the other person to do the same. Provide a space space and a listening ear for them. If you’re struggling mentally for long periods of time, consider reaching out to a therapist or joining a support group.
Be a Positive Role Model
Creating change in our society stems from being a positive role model to the younger generation. Take a moment to think about who shaped you into the man you are today. Maybe you had a family member, coach, or teacher as a mentor when you were younger who helped guide you through difficult times and come out on the other side stronger. If you didn’t have a mentor, be the man you needed to have around when you were younger. Utilize that energy to encourage and inspire others – you never know the impact it could have on someone else. Young men are impressionable, and there’s plenty of darkness and negativity surrounding them in real life and on social media. Show young kings what a strong leader looks like.
Create a Community
A strong and supportive community leads to well-rounded men who are ready to face any challenges. Without a sense of community, it’s easy to feel lost and overwhelmed. Research events in your area that are targeted for men and promote. If you find solace at the gym or playing sports, connect with other men through fitness activities – such as a group class, run club, or an adult league. At The Kingdom, we host monthly Kingdom Knights for men to mingle and meet other kings within the community.
Engage in a Healthy Lifestyle
Our mental state is directly tied into how we are treating our bodies. Invest in your health and it will positively reflect in your overall well-being. Exercise everyday to get your endorphins flowing. You don’t have to exercise vigorously for two hours a day to boost your mood. A simple walk has the ability to switch your mindset around. Prioritize home-cooked meals, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough rest each night to feel at the top of your game.
I know that it sounds cliché, but you have to be the change you want to see in the world. Nothing changes if no one’s actions change. By following these steps, you’re already on your way to becoming a better man. Take action today and inspire others to follow suit. Let’s create an army of strong kings to empower the generations to come.
