Happy November, kings! We think it’s safe to say that the holiday season is officially underway, with Thanksgiving approaching in just a few short weeks. The Holidays are upon us. This time of year is filled with family gatherings, parties and more, and it’s completely natural to experience some level of anxiety and stress from them. Learn how to navigate these events with ease, network, and create connections like a pro in this guide:

Dress to Impress

When we look our best, we feel our best and are in turn more likely to put ourselves out there. You don’t have to show up in a business suit if that’s not the necessary attire for the event; simply dress head to toe in your favorite fit for the ultimate confidence boost. Prior to the event, treat yourself to any service that relaxes you and leaves you feeling like the king you are – whether it’s a haircut, facial, massage, manicure, or pedicure. Our recommendation is a manicure to prep your hands for a night full of handshaking.

Body Language

Make yourself approachable to others through your body language. When we cross our arms and avoid eye contact, we’re subconsciously closing ourselves off from creating connections with those around us. If someone in the environment is looking for a face in the crowd to strike up a conversation with, this type of body language is likely to deter them away. Open the door to conversation by smiling and making eye contact.

Active Listening

It’s important to be an active listener when networking. Provide people with your full undivided attention during conversation; put away your phone and set aside any distractions. You might consider turning your phone off completely or putting it on do not disturb to avoid the urge to continuously check it. Don’t just wait for it to be your turn to speak. Instead, ask the other person open-ended questions at appropriate times to keep the conversation flowing. Open-ended questions show that you are genuinely interested in what the other person has to say and are curious to learn more. Through active listening, you might find similarities and common interests between you and the other person – this is how meaningful relationships develop.

Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone

In environments like this, we tend to stick to what we know and talk to the same people because it’s safe. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and meet new faces by initiating a conversation. This doesn’t mean to ignore your friends and those you are familiar with; it simply means to expand your circle and broaden your horizons. Start off with small talk to break the ice. You never know what could come from putting yourself out there, and this step becomes easier over time. Practice really does make perfect.

Being yourself is the most important thing you can do in situations like this. Your authentic and true self will attract the right connections. Remember, the holiday season is a time to relax and enjoy yourself – you deserve it after all your hard work this year. You got this, kings.
