Treat Your Skin Like Royalty
As the weather changes with the season, so does our skin. With the colder months rapidly approaching, you may notice that your skin feels drier and looks duller. At The Kingdom, we often see men coming in for facials for the first time, and they frequently ask us: What products should I use on my skin? How should I take care of my skin? A majority of men wash their face with a simple bar of soap and water. With a little upleveling, your skin will thank you with an improved appearance. Learn the importance of a solid skincare routine and how to properly pamper your skin with this ultimate guide for men:
Step 1: Cleanse
This is the bare minimum we should ALL be doing. Using a gentle cleanser morning and night removes any excess dirt and oil chilling on your skin. Dirt and oil buildup is what causes our skin to break out. If you’re not sure what cleanser to buy, first determine what type of skin you have: dry, oily, or combination. All you need to look for is a gentle wash geared for your skin’s needs and your good to go. With a clean and fresh canvas, the following steps will absorb into your skin better.
Step 2: Exfoliate
Exfoliate your skin at least once or twice a week to remove any dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling and looking smoother. Adding an exfoliator to your routine helps unclog pores and improve texture. Choose a scrub with gentle beads for this step, and be aware that over-exfoliating can irritate your skin and do more harm than good.
Step 3: Moisturize
This is an important step all year round, but especially in the colder months. In the summer, you might have opted for a lightweight moisturizer and now find that it isn’t sufficient. Your skin might need a little extra TLC now; be sure to give it a boost of hydration if you’re showing signs of dry, dehydrated skin. Even if you have oily skin, moisturizing is a crucial step. Without moisture, the skin produces extra oil to make up for it, leading to breakouts. Don’t forget to hydrate your skin from the inside out and drink plenty of water.
Step 4: SPF
To protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancer, this is a step you can’t forget. Apply a layer of SPF 30 (or higher) every morning. You might think that SPF is only needed in the summer, however, that is a common misconception. SPF is needed all year round. UV rays can still penetrate through clouds, so take the extra precaution! Your skin will thank you down the line.
Simplicity & Consistency
You don’t need a million step skincare routine with an extensive line of products to treat your skin right. Remember, simplicity and consistency is key. Follow your skincare routine morning and night for the work to be effective. In addition, eating and sleeping well also plays a role in our skin’s appearance.
Skin is our largest organ, so let’s treat it with the care it deserves. Investing in yourself doesn’t have to be time consuming or complicated. This simple skincare routine will leave you with healthier skin and a newfound confidence.
