Step Out of Your Comfort Zone and Into the Best You

Many of us have been through phases in life that felt too comfortable – where we’re staying stagnant and not making any sort of change. We often get stuck in this cycle because it feels safe and manageable. In times like this, our stress is low because we know what to expect everyday and we fall into a predictable routine. You may be asking yourself: Why would I want to be uncomfortable? Feeling good, safe, and stress-free sounds like a dream life! That’s a valid question, but here’s the answer you probably don’t want to hear: we don’t grow or evolve when we’re comfortable. When we push ourselves outside of our comfort zone, that’s when we see meaningful change across all areas of our lives. Start Small 

It’s scary enough to acknowledge that you want to make a change in your life, so just start small in the beginning. You don’t have to make drastic decisions and wake up the next day a completely different person because that’s not realistic or sustainable. Genuine growth happens over time when you make small movements everyday. Maybe today you start a conversation with the barista this morning or try a new hobby – no action is too small to count. These small actions eventually lead to big wins and generate self-confidence. 

Challenge Your Body

What’s a physical goal you’ve always wanted to accomplish, but were too scared to actually go for it? Whether it’s running a marathon or trying rock climbing, these activities can help break you out of a rut and push your physical and mental strength. Often when we’re engaging in a strenuous activity, we want to call it quits the second it gets tough. When you’re testing your body’s limits, you’re building up your mental strength to work through the discomfort in the process. 

Keep Going No Matter What 

Starting your journey is one thing, but it’s another to stay committed and keep going no matter what the circumstances are – this is what actually creates progress and leads to success. You’re not going to wake up everyday and feel motivated to push through, and that’s where discipline comes in. Over time, this won’t feel like a chore and will become a part of your daily routine. It’s not always going to be smooth sailing, but you’re more than capable. 

Celebrate Yourself 

At the end of each milestone, big or small, acknowledge your hard work and celebrate your successes. Trying something new takes courage and you should be proud of yourself for putting in the effort to become a better you. Recognizing your growth can motivate you further and reinforce the belief that you can do anything you set your mind to. Celebrate yourself in whatever way makes you feel good – whether it’s treating yourself to your favorite meal or writing down your feelings to mark the moment in time. 

We can try to avoid the unknown for the rest of our lives, but we won’t feel any real fulfillment from staying in a bubble. All of the leaders you look up to have reached success by stepping outside of their comfort zone and facing challenges head-on – they didn’t take the easy route. Watch the new version of yourself unfold and become the man you aspire to be.
