Surviving the Holiday Season: Time-Management Tips for Men
Season’s greetings, kings! There’s tons of excitement and activities surrounding the holiday season, and it can be difficult to juggle all of our responsibilities as busy men. Balancing work, family, and festivities can quickly become overwhelming and take the enjoyment out of this time of year. Implementing time-management strategies into your life allows you to spend more time relaxing and fully appreciating the holidays. Today, let’s learn how to navigate the season while crushing our professional and personal goals:
Prioritize Your To-Do’s
As the days ramp up to Christmas, your to-do list may look excruciatingly long. Prioritize what’s urgent to get the stressful tasks completed first, leaving more room for you to breathe. Organize your list in whatever way is most effective for you – whether it’s in a planner or the notes app on your phone. When creating your list, set aside specific time blocks to knock out each duty and stay focused on what is currently at hand. This helps prevent your brain from entering freakout mode.
Schedule Self-Care
With everything going on in the month of December, don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Schedule in some form of self-care every day to avoid burnout and exhaustion. Your self-care doesn’t have to be extensive and time consuming, though it is nice when we have ample time. Exercising, meditating, and watching football are all forms of self-care that recharge our battery. Choose the form that works best for you and keeps you feeling sane during the holiday craze.
Plan Ahead…But Stay Flexible
Unnecessary stress stems from procrastinating and waiting until the very last minute to tackle everything on your plate; plan ahead at the beginning of each week to help avoid this. If you’re looking at your week in advance, you give yourself an idea of what to expect and the time you have available to check off items on your to-do list. Even with planning ahead, know that there is a possibility things might go awry. The holiday season is full of surprises. Stay flexible to keep a level-head when things go off track.
Stay Mindful
‘Tis the season to stay mindful and live in the present moment, but we know this is easier said than done. Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine to keep yourself afloat in the midst of chaos. What does mindfulness look like for you? Is it taking a long walk alone or meditating? The holidays are all about spending quality time with your loved ones, but you can’t fully enjoy those occasions if you’re feeling fatigued and not prioritizing yourself. If you need more guidance on this, see our last blog post for tips on embracing gratitude to help you live more mindfully.
This time of year shouldn’t be riddled with stress looming over your head; it’s important to find the balance between fulfilling your responsibilities and spending time engaging in holiday festivities. Implementing these time-management practices into your life will help you navigate the upcoming month with ease. Cheers to the holiday season, kings!
